Your journeys, your business

Privacy Policy

Effective October 17, 2026

Fareline (“Fareline”, “we”, “us”) makes an iPhone app that compares ride options in Canada and hands your trip to the ride service you choose. This policy explains what information the app uses, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. We follow the principles of Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

The short version

Information we use

Location. With your permission, Fareline reads your device location while the app is open to set your pickup and centre search results. Your coordinates are sent to Apple to look up the street address and calculate the driving route. Fareline does not store your location on its own servers. You can decline or change this permission in iPhone Settings and still search for a pickup instead.

Places and trips. When you search for a place or compare rides, your search text and your pickup and destination are sent to Apple Maps to find places and calculate the route and drive time. Fare estimates are then calculated on your device.

Account (optional). If you create an account, we collect your name, email address and a password. Your password is stored only in hashed form by our authentication provider. We use your email to confirm your account, let you reset your password, and reply to messages you send us.

Stored on your device. Saved journeys, recent searches, your selected city and preferences (such as haptics) are stored locally on your iPhone and are not uploaded to us. Device backups you make may include them.

Messages to us. If you email us, we keep the message and your email address to respond and to improve Fareline.

Who we share it with

We share information only with service providers that help us run Fareline, and only as needed:

Some providers may process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law. When you tap “Continue in Uber” or “Continue in Lyft”, your chosen pickup and destination are passed to that app or website, and their own privacy policies apply from that point. Fareline is not affiliated with Uber, Lyft, Hopp or any taxi operator, and does not receive information back from them about your ride.

We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or others.

How long we keep it

Account information is kept until you delete your account. Information on your device stays until you remove it or delete the app. Emails you send us are kept as long as needed to respond and for our records.

Your choices and rights

If you have a concern we can’t resolve, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

Security

We use encrypted connections and reputable providers to protect your information, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Please protect your device with a passcode.

Children

Fareline is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes

We may update this policy as Fareline changes. We will post the new version here with a new effective date and, for significant changes, let you know in the app.
